A series of focused topic study courses, Intersessions, provide an opportunity for students to focus on particular areas required by the curriculum as well as areas of particular strength, weakness or interest.
Three main types of Intersessions courses are offered:
- Core intersessions: required by every student
- Foundation intersessions: designed to help students enhance understanding and performance
- Advanced intersessions: focused on the interests and strengths of the individual student
Students participate in two intersession periods; after the Early Clinical Experience (ECE) and after the Middle Clinical Experience (MCE). The first intersession contains eight courses each one month in duration. The second intersession contains 4 courses, each 1 month in duration. Intersession courses are taken as morning/afternoon pairs. Students work with their Learning Society Fellows to create a learning plan for enrollment in specific Intersessions, considering performance on the Progress Suite of Assessments.
Intersessions can incorporate the same methodologies students are accustomed to from their ECE and MCE courses, however weekly schedules vary by topic.
